Every way to pay for HighLevel AI, explained
Pay Per Use, AI Employee Growth, AI Employee Unlimited, and the $20 AI Agency Assistant seat. See what each one covers, work out which fits, and get more from whichever you choose.
This field guide from Michael Reimer of CRM Pros explains every way to pay for HighLevel AI. It compares Pay Per Use, the AI Employee Growth plan, the AI Employee Unlimited plan, and the twenty dollar AI Agency Assistant seat, shows how the rolling five hour and seven day meters work, and helps you get the most value from whichever you choose.

Three plans set for a location, and one seat added for a team member.
HighLevel has four ways to pay for AI. Three are set for a client location. One is an add on for a team member. Once you see that split, the whole price list makes sense.
These are HighLevel's AI plans. They are separate from your HighLevel subscription. The names overlap: $97 and Unlimited each mean something different on the subscription side. On this page, an AI plan is always written with its full name.
Two separate decisions
Decision one
Each location
How does this client account pay for the AI that talks to its customers: chat, calls, reviews, content, and agents?
3 options. Pick one per location.
Decision two
Each team member
Does this person get an AI Agency Assistant seat for their own Ask AI and AI Studio work, in every account they open?
1 option. Add the seat, or not.
An agency can mix these freely. Three seats for the team, forty locations on Pay Per Use, and five busy locations on AI Employee Unlimited is a perfectly normal setup.

Not everything in Workflow AI is free. The premium actions Decision Maker, Intent Detection, Summarize Text, and Translate cost $0.01 per execution after your first 100 free lifetime executions. External models used in a workflow, such as the GPT action, bill at the provider's rates.
Never free: Agent Studio is pay per use on every plan. Phone System charges apply to every call, whatever AI plan you are on.

How to read the gauges
Unlimited Voice AI is not free phone service
A Voice AI call has two costs. The AI part is covered by the location's AI plan. The phone call itself is billed by the Phone System, on every plan. When a bill looks wrong, check which of the two it is.
Passing AI costs to a client: two different tools
One bills for usage as it happens. The other sells the monthly plan. HighLevel keeps them in separate places.
Rebilling
Pass usage charges through to a client, with a markup or a fixed rate.
What it bills
Chargeable AI usage, as it happens
Good to know
- Markup pricing charges the client a multiple of the underlying AI cost.
- Fixed rate pricing is available for Conversation AI and Voice AI, as a set price per message or per minute.
- A fixed client rate does not change what HighLevel charges your agency.
What you need
Your HighLevel subscription must be the $497 a month tier, with client billing set up for that subaccount.

It is for your team, not for clients
The seat is not something you package for clients. For client AI, the location plans are the ones built for reselling.
It works alongside a location's plan
When a client location already has an AI plan, that plan's included usage works with your seat before any overage begins.
Call it included usage that refills
That is how to introduce it to your team. It is accurate, and it builds the right habits from day one.

Cost estimates use HighLevel's published example sessions where one exists: $0.60 to $1.30 for AI Studio page and site builds and $0.70 to $1.18 for Ask AI tasks. Quick lookups and small revisions are our estimate at $0.30, and branded content with images at $1.50. HighLevel has not yet published example costs for full stack apps or for API and server work, so those are our estimates at $1.50 and $0.90 a session. HighLevel does not publish allowance sizes, so the gauges are a planning estimate. Your answers are saved on this device only.
How the three meters work
Every enrolled user has three meters running at once. Learn these and the rest of the guide makes sense.
| Meter | Looks back | What counts toward it |
|---|---|---|
| Ask AI | 5 hours | Ask AI usage only |
| AI Studio | 5 hours | AI Studio usage only |
| Weekly | 7 days | Ask AI and AI Studio combined |
See the 5 hour window roll
12:00 PM
Taller bars are heavier requests. Watch the meter climb as they enter the window and fall as they drop off.
An illustration. HighLevel does not publish allowance sizes.
The meters roll. Nothing resets at midnight or at the start of the week. HighLevel always looks at the previous 5 hours or 7 days. As older usage moves outside that period, capacity comes back gradually.
Reaching the limit on one product leaves the other available. Every request also counts toward the Weekly meter. When the Weekly meter is full, both products pause until older usage ages out, even if a 5 hour meter still has room.
There is no session clock to start.
Some AI tools run fixed sessions, so people send an early morning message to start the timer. You can skip that here. Usage from 8:00 AM begins aging out around 1:00 PM.
Pace yourself across the week.
The Weekly meter rewards steady use over constant maxing. The real goal is more finished work per unit of AI processing.
What uses the most capacity
Eight things that make a request heavier, with HighLevel's own example costs.
The one idea to hold on to
Think in work performed, not prompts sent.
HighLevel measures the processing a request needs. Ten prompts do not equal ten units, and HighLevel does not publish a fixed number of prompts for this plan.

Seats and billing
Who should get a seat, how billing works, and seat versus pay per use.
The seat belongs to a person, not a location. It shines for the people who live inside many accounts. One implementer who touches 50 clients pays $20, not $20 per location.
Enroll these roles first
Agency owner or architect
Works in every account and needs fast answers.
Implementation specialist
Builds and changes accounts all day.
Support specialist
Researches accounts and makes fixes.
Media buyer
Pulls campaign data across locations.
Account manager
Needs contact summaries, appointments, and pipeline status.
Social media manager
Writes and schedules posts in each client's brand voice, across many accounts.
Each of these must be an Agency Admin or Agency User to be enrolled. The seat covers their Ask AI and AI Studio work. Content AI inside the Social Planner is billed to the subaccount.

The prorated daysThe new user pays for these 2 days now, then a full month on the 11th with everyone else.
Coverage starts right away
There is no waiting for the next renewal. A seat works the moment you subscribe it.
Last seat out ends the plan
Remove the last enrolled user and the subscription ends with them.
Unenrolled users stay separate
Their usage does not route to the agency by default. It reaches the agency wallet only when that subaccount has rebilling for subaccount users turned on.
Enroll a user in four steps
Open the Agency Dashboard and go to AI Suite, then the AI Agency Assistant tab.
Find the agency user and click Subscribe.
Review the details. If a subscription already exists, the prorated charge is shown.
Check the authorization box and click Subscribe.
If you do not see the tab, turn the feature on in Labs first.
Extra Usage
You decide what happens when a seat reaches its limit.
You stay in control of spend. When a seat reaches its limit, HighLevel pauses further usage by default. You decide, person by person, whether to allow more.

If that client location has AI Employee Growth or Unlimited, its included usage comes next.
Already paid forExtra Usage
Only if you turned it on for that person. It bills at Pay Per Use rates, up to the cap you set.
Only if you allow itPaused
With Extra Usage off, usage simply pauses until capacity rolls back. No surprise charges.
The defaultStep 3 only exists if you switch it on. Leave it off and the path goes straight from step 2 to Paused.
The four controls you have
Monthly limit
Caps Extra Usage for that person each month, across all subaccounts.
Keep working, just notify
The agency gets an alert and the person keeps working.
Stop at the limit
Ask AI and AI Studio stop using Extra Usage until the monthly limit resets.
Subaccount limits
Caps spend per subaccount. At the cap, AI stops there for everyone.
Set this with care. A low cap on a busy location can stop customer facing AI too.

Two ways to build a workflow from a prompt
Ask AI
Use it when you are already in a chat and want to stay there. We expect the build to count toward your Ask AI meter like any other request.
Uses your meterWorkflow AI Builder, inside Workflows
Open it when your dials are getting full. HighLevel lists this builder as free with fair use.
FreeAsk AI can also run agents you built in Agent Studio. Agent Studio is pay per use on every plan, so expect that work to bill separately.
AI Studio playbook
Eight step build order, free Visual Edits, and prompts written for you.
AI Studio remembers your project, so you never have to repeat yourself. HighLevel notes that this growing context can increase the work later requests require. Your fiftieth change may use more than your fifth. Plan for that and you stay light.
Build in this order
1. Plan outside AI Studio
Settle pages, sections, offer, audience, call to action, and assets first.
2. Send one complete build prompt
A detailed first prompt removes rounds of revision.
3. Lock structure and copy
Get layout, navigation, and headlines right while the project is light.
4. Connect forms and calendars
AI Studio builds the layout first and connects after you click Connect.
5. Fix responsive issues
Batch desktop, tablet, and mobile fixes into one request.
6. Generate imagery last
Create the images you need, and keep the good ones.
7. Polish by hand
Finish with Visual Edits. They use no AI.
8. Publish, then check it live
Publish to your domain, then test every form, link, and button, on your phone too.
Visual Edits use no AI
Click an element in the live preview to change text, colors, spacing, buttons, icons, image source, and alt text. HighLevel states the AI model is only invoked when you send a prompt, so direct visual changes do not consume tokens. Headline tweaks and copy fixes belong here, not in the prompt box.
Batch your revisions
Every prompt you send carries your project's context with it, so each send has a cost before AI Studio changes a single word. Here are the same six changes, sent two ways.
- 1Change the headlineSend
- 2Reword the main buttonSend
- 3Move testimonials above pricingSend
- 4Swap the hero imageSend
- 5Update the footer addressSend
- 6Pin the button on mobileSend
6 sends
You pay for the project's context six times, and wait through six builds.
What you type, once
Make these six revisions in one pass:
- Change the headline
- Reword the main button
- Move testimonials above pricing
- Swap the hero image
- Update the footer address
- Pin the button on mobile
1 send
Same result. You pay for the context once, and wait through one build.
Better still: three of those six, the headline, the button wording, and the image swap, need no prompt at all. Make them in Visual Edits, which uses no AI.

Text on one side, a large image on the other. 2. Services: a grid of matching cards, three or six. Each card has an icon, a plain name, one sentence on the result, exactly three short bullet points, and a text link. 3. How it works: three or four numbered steps from first contact to finished result, shown as a stepper joined by a line, each with a short title and one sentence. Not a bullet list. 4. Social proof: three matching testimonial cards with a star row, a quote slot, and name and role slots, plus one row for ratings or logos. Use only the real facts I gave you and mark everything else as a slot. 5. FAQ: five to seven real objections as an accordion, answered plainly in two or three sentences each. 6. Final call to action: a bold full width band in the dark brand tone that restates the main outcome, with the primary button and one line that lowers the risk of acting. DESIGN SYSTEM Set these once as shared tokens and reuse them everywhere. Do not style sections one at a time. Style: Clean and modern. Lots of whitespace, a crisp sans serif type pairing, soft rounded corners, subtle shadows, and one confident accent color. Color: [brand colors]. Build a small system from them: one primary, one accent, one dark tone for contrast sections, and neutral tints for backgrounds and borders. Type: one display typeface for headings and one clean typeface for body text, with a clear size scale and comfortable line height. Shape and depth: one corner radius, one border color, and one soft shadow style, used everywhere. Spacing: one vertical rhythm between sections and one padding size inside cards. Buttons: one primary style and one secondary style, used the same way in every section. LAYOUT AND ALIGNMENT 1. Every set of cards in a row is the same height. Titles, body text, and buttons start on the same lines across the row. 2. Cards in a set carry the same number of bullet points, of similar length. 3. Grids are always even: two, three, four, or six across. Never leave one card alone on a row. 4. No narrow columns that force text into tall thin blocks. If text needs room, give it a wider row. 5. Nothing is stretched to fill space. No empty padding inside a card. 6. One clear focal point per section. Alternate white, tinted, and dark sections so the page has rhythm as you scroll. 7. Tags and chips sit in an ordered row or grid, never scattered. SHOW IT, DO NOT LIST IT Visitors scan. They do not read. Numbers become large stat figures. A process becomes a numbered stepper. A comparison becomes two panels side by side. Features become icon cards. Never use a plain table or a long bullet list where a visual would do. Keep every paragraph to three lines or fewer on desktop. INTERACTION AND MOTION Build every item on this list. Use CSS transitions and the browser's IntersectionObserver. Do not add an animation library. 1. Sections and cards fade and rise into view as they scroll in, staggered left to right, and only once. 2. Every large number counts up from zero when it scrolls into view. 3. The steps in How it works light up in order, first to last, when the stepper scrolls into view, and the line between them fills as they do. 4. Cards lift slightly with a soft shadow on hover. Buttons have clear hover, focus, and pressed states. 5. The header stays pinned to the top, and gains a solid background and a soft shadow after the first scroll. 6. The FAQ opens and closes smoothly, one item at a time, with a rotating icon. 7. The hero image has a very slow, subtle zoom. Rules: nothing loops forever except the slow hero zoom. No particles, floating dots, or animated backgrounds. No motion that shifts the layout or delays reading. When a visitor has reduced motion turned on, show everything in its finished state. Nothing may ever cause sideways scrolling. COPY RULES Tone: confident and plain spoken. Write specific, benefit led copy for this exact business and this exact customer. Short sentences. Headlines under ten words. No filler phrases, no em dashes, and no small generic label above each heading. I have not given you facts yet, so do not state any numbers, years, ratings, or guarantees. Never invent reviews, statistics, awards, client names, or guarantees. Where a fact is missing, write a clearly marked slot in square brackets for me to fill in. IMAGES Do not generate any images in this pass. Leave clearly sized image slots with a short note describing the ideal photo. I will add imagery in a later step. Do not add photo credits or stock photo notes anywhere on the page. FUNCTION The primary button appears in the header, in the hero, after the proof section, and at the end of the page. Prepare the page to connect to [your form or calendar]. I will confirm the connection myself after the build. Include a footer with the business name, service area, contact slots, and the main links. QUALITY BAR Design mobile first, then scale up to tablet and desktop. No sideways scrolling at 390 pixels wide. Tap targets are easy to hit. Text contrast meets accessibility standards. Use semantic headings in order, with one H1 only. Every image or image slot has descriptive alt text. Keyboard focus is always visible. PROCESS Build the full structure, design, copy, and motion in this single pass. Do not ask me questions unless something truly blocks the build. Do not publish. When you finish, report three things: what you built, section by section. Every interaction you actually implemented, and where it lives in the code. Every square bracket slot I need to fill. If you could not build something on this list, say so plainly instead of saying it is done.
A long first prompt is fine. HighLevel says prompt length alone does not determine usage. One complete prompt costs far less than ten rounds of corrections.

HighLevel says a reference guides structure, layout, and style. It is not an exact copy.
Use animation where it sells.
The heaviest documented example added an animation library and a full image set.
